The summer collection for Orla Kiely's diffusion line, Olive and Orange, is probably ancient news at this point in the season, but somewhere between my house swap back in the spring and the peak of my school assignments at the end of the semester, I missed it. Of all collections to miss, this is probably the one that best fits my personal style. The silhouettes are exact replicas of my favorite kinds of vintage dresses, and the dainty sock + wedge combo is breakin' my heart it's so cute. Last week I went through a spell of wanting to listen to lots of 50s Doo-wop and rockabilly tunes, which was most likely brought on by the 50s-themed charity event I went to at my favorite bar.
A group of local musicians came together to learn all the best 50s hits (e.g., Rock Around the Clock, Tutti-Frutti, Rockin' Robin, and so many more) in honor of a Little Rock musician, Luke Hunsiker, who died last year from brain cancer at age 29. His story is sad and unfair, and I'm sure he'd be happy to know that so many of his old pals came together to honor him by starting a scholarship in his name. That night was a party, and I was glad to have gotten off work in time to attend. I wore this dress, made a new friend, and probably drank one too many rum and cokes, but it was a great time.
